Oct. 14th - 20th

Upper Provo River
Some large browns are being caught just upstream from Jordanelle Reservoir. These are lake run fish making their spawning trek.  Streamers in black, olive, and yellow have produced fish.  Also try nymphing small leeches, san jaun worms, egg patterns, and stonefly nymphs.

Middle Provo River
The Middle has been fishing great!  Surface action has been good on both caddis and b.w.o. patterns.  Cloudy rainy days have brought a lot of fish up on blue winged olives, while sunny days have been a bit better on caddis.  Try orange Stimulators #14-16 for the big fall caddis and #16 tan Spent Partridge Caddis and Elk Hairs for the smaller caddis.  B.W.O.'s hatch midday with the best patterns being #20 Comparaduns and Blue Ribbon Cripple patterns.  A great rig for covering some water is using the Stimulator as a large bouyant attractor and trailing a bead head nymph such as a Barr's B.W.O. Emerger, Psycho May, or Good 'N Plenty.  Streamers have been great in low light conditions.  Black and Olive have been best.  Spin fishers should try Panther Martins and Brown Trout Rapalas.

Lower Provo River
Fishing's been good using sow bugs trailed with Blue Winged Olive nymphs.  Try using gray or rainbow colored sows in #14-18, and either a Juju Baetis or Micro May pattern in #18-20's.

Strawberry Reservoir
Fishing's excellent! This is the best time of the year to hit the 'Berry, fishing should to be great at least through the end of the month.  Water temps have been in the high 40's to low 50's, making the cutts very aggressive.  Tube jigs have been very good, along with jerk baits and large swim bait patterns.  Try white, sand, and olive tubes. Rainbow and Chub patterns for the jerk and swim baits.  Fly anglers have been doing great using a variety of woolly bugger  and minnow patterns.  Try red and black woolly buggers, pearl crystal buggers, pink crystal killers, and plain black buggers.

Rockport Reservior
Many good sized rainbows being caught from shore with PowerBait and worms.  Trolling with needlefish, flat fish, and pop gear and a worm has also worked.  The fish are shallow so try longline trolling with monofillament.

Willard Bay
Fishing for Wipers has been a little sporadic but when you run into a school it's been fast and furious.  Try Pearl and chartreuse colored jigs, shad colored crankbaits and jerkbaits.  Fly anglers should try white Zonkers, chartreuse and white Clouser Minnows, and white woolly buggers.

Sept 15th - 21st

Willard Bay
Some sporadic boils are showing up, usually in the evening. The inlet has been a popular area, as has the east bay and there has also been some activity around the north marina and dike. Some fish are being pulled up on large top water baits like Lucky Craft Sammys, but the best has action has been on smaller jigs, lipless cranks, spinnerbaits, Roostertails, and flies. Focus on white and chartreuse colors.

Middle Provo River
Caddis are still the name of the game on top for the Middle. Small Orange Stimulators, Brown Elk Hair Caddis, E-Z Caddis in #12-#16. With some of the larger fall caddis around, try nymphing with a bigger Hare's Ear or Red Fox Squirrel in #12-#16's, and trailing those with smaller baetis nymphs and midge larva like Barr's Emergers, Zebra Midges, and Mercury Midges. Fish are starting to chase streamers pretty well too. Try some olive sculpin patterns and black conehead buggers. Spin fishers should throw some Panther Martin Spinners, and Brown Trout Rapalas.

Lower Provo River
Good fishing in high water. The flows are up, but it is very fishable. PMD's and caddis. The larger PMD is about done, but there are lot of small, #22's mid day. Try using a #22 vis-a-dun for the adult and Bear's baetis for the nymph. There is a great afternoon caddis hatch. Use a #16 elk hair caddis on top or an olive caddis emerger under. Hoppers can be the surprise fly. They may not be the best, but every once in a while a big fish will be the reward.

Strawberry Reservoir
The cooler temps have helped. Mostly rainbows being caught with a few cutthroat showing up a little shallower. Try trolling wedding rings and Flatfish. Cast tube jigs and Lucky Craft lures along the shoreline, and still fish with minnows and PowerBait

Jordanelle
Still lots of small smallmouth being caught in 8'-10' of water on drop shot set ups like green pumpkin grubs and tubes, minnow imitating plastics, and some top water poppers in the early morning hours. PowerBait has been picking up a few trout in the Rock Cliff river arm, try the Salmon Peach.

Green River
The River is fishing very well with flows fluctuating between about 1800 c.f.s. and 3000 c.f.s. The best fishing has been on top with small and large terrestrial patterns; #12-14 cinnamon ants and beetles have been great, # 8-10 black cricket and cicada type patterns have also been fishing well. Triple Doubles, Sailor Ants, Foam Hoppers, Foam Flying Ants, Black PMX's, and LSS Chernobyls have all been great.

Sept 8th - 14th

Green River
The "A" section is fishing with some smaller terrestrials. Small Cinnamon Ants, Sailor Ants, Beetles, and Hoppers have been working well on top. Drop some smaller Zebra Midges and Baetis patterns off the dry for some subsurface patterns. "B" and "C" sections have been producing some nice fish on some larger terrestrials like Fat Alberts and Chernobyls. Streamers have also been working well on the lower sections.

Middle Provo River
Caddis have been the fly of choice on the Middle, both dry and pupa patterns. Lawson's E-Z Caddis in olive has been great, as has brown or tan Elk Hair Caddis. Fish the small pockets between the large pools
in morning and evening for fast dry fly action. Some PMD's still getting rises in #20, and small hoppers are fooling a few fish in the afternoon hours. Pulsating Caddis Pupa and Hogan's Good and Plenty have been good subsurface caddis patterns. If running a double nymph rig, trail a small Baetis nymph, or small black midge larva in #18-22. Fish are starting to chase down some olive streamer patterns too.

Strawberry Reservoir
Fishing's been good, with mostly 12"-18" rainbows being caught. Try trolling with pop gear or Rocky Mountain Dodgers and trailing small plastic squid in white and chartreuse colors. Flatfish and Wedding Rings have also been good to troll. Fly fishers are picking up some fish on big black bunny leeches, and olive mohair leeches. Look for the cutthroat fishing to start improving towards the end of the month and peak in October.

Jordanelle
Smallmouth fishing continues to be great! Dark colored tube jigs, drop shot style worms, Reaction Innovations Little Dipper plastics. Look for the fish in 5' - 15' of water on the north end of the reservoir and over on the Rock Cliff river arm. Trout fishing in the morning on the Rock Cliff arm has been good on PowerBait.

Rockport
Trout fishing continues to be good from shore with PowerBait. The east side of the reservoir inside the state park has been fishing best.
Trolling has been very good with pop gear and small spoons and Flatfish.

Uinta Lakes
The roadside lakes are fishing great and still heavily stocked from the past Labor Day weekend. If you like to use bait try  power bait or worms. Lure fishing is good with Jakes Spin-a-lures for deep lakes or spinners for shallow lakes or fishing near the edge. Flies work great with either spinning rod and bubble or fly rod. Try using a Royal flush, small crystal killer or prince nymph wet or an ant or parachute adams dry.

September 1st - 7th

September is already here, nights are cooling down, and fishing is great! Get out and enjoy the long Labor Day weekend.

Rockport Reservoir
Shore fishing has been good with some nice rainbows in the 13"-17" range being caught on PowerBait. Try the east side of the reservoir particularly. Trolling has been very good with pop gear and small spoons and Flatfish.  Float tubers have been doing great drifting with Crysal Killer flies.

Middle Provo River
Fishing has been good on caddis, both dry and subsurface.  Fish brown Elk Hair Caddis, E/C Caddis, and Goddard's on top, #14-16's.  Subsurface, run Graphic Caddis and Pulsating Caddis Pupa.  PMD nymphs have been a great dropper below dry caddis or fished deep beneath an indicator.  Try #18-20 JuJu PMD nymphs, Psycho PMD's, and Split Case patterns. Small Hoppers are worth throwing mid-day.

Lower Provo River
Dry fly fishing on the lower has been great with caddis!  Fish the pockets along the edges with E-Z Caddis and Spent Partridge Caddis in #14-16's.  PMD nymph's and sow bugs have fished well underneath.

Strawberry Reservoir
Good fishing for rainbows in the 13" - 17" range, and a few cutthroat.  Best fishing seems to be down around Indian Creek and Renegade areas as well as around the mouth of the Narrows.  Trolling with Flatfish from 15- 25' down has been productive, with the cutthroats being found at the deeper end of that range. Good reports of fishing with black woolly buggers and bunny leeches in close to shore for fly anglers in float tubes and pontoons.  Fishing should get better and better throughout September.

Jordanelle
Fishing for smallmouth has been great!  They've been finding most of them on the north end amongst shallow weedbeds.  The fish are concentrating on small perch minnows, so use small perch colored plastics like Robo Minnows, small swim baits, Reaction Innovation Little Dipper, and tubes and curly tails.

Uinta Lakes
The roadside lakes have all been stocked to get them ready for the Labor Day weekend. To avoid the crowds, walk in to some of the inner lakes. Most people will stay close to their cars.

Green River
Crowds are thinning and the terrestrial fishing is hot!  Hoppers were late to get going but have come on strong as of late.  Good reports on smaller hoppers, ants, and crickets on "A" section. Larger hoppers, Chernobyl Ants, and Fat Alberts have been picking up some good fish on "B" and "C" sections.  Also try some Foam Flying Ants, Amber Triple Doubles, and Cinnamon Sailor Ants.  Drop some smaller Pheasant Tails, Brown and Black Zebra Midges, small Epoxy Stone Nymphs for trailers behind the dries.

May 22nd - 28th

Upper Provo River
The Upper stretch is high, at 850 cfs and will only get higher with the rain and warm temps later this week.  The river will likely be nearly unfishable for at least the next month.

Middle Provo River
Flows have actually dropped by a hundred cfs in the past week and is at 566 cfs as of Sunday the 22nd.  Fishing continues to be good as long as you adapt to the higher water conditions.  Baetis nymphs continue to be the meal of choice, try Barr's Emergers, Psycho Mays, and JuJu Baetis in 18's and 20's.   For dessert, the fish have been taking #10 and #12 Stonefly nymphs if they've left room after the baetis.  Try Epoxy Back Golden Stones, Barr's Tungstone, and some 20 incher stones.  Streamer fishing can be excellent at this flow, try big articulated streamers in black and olive, and get fish them near the bottom.

Lower Provo River
The lower is very high, as they are trying to make some room in Deer Creek.  It's also been off color from all the mud feeding in from Little Deer Creek just below the dam.  We will have to wait and see what the weather brings, hopefully it will clear up soon.

Green River
The Green has been running high lately, so high that some people have been floating A,B, and C section in less than six hours.  That's fast!  As of Sunday the flows are about 4700cfs, but are expected to go back up to nearly 9000 soon.  Reports have been mixed.  Some success has been had nymphing deep with scuds and midges.  Also some good fish are being caught on big streamers.  Check the flows on our 'Rivers' page or give us a call before heading out that way.

Strawberry Reservoir
The ice completely blew off Strawberry a week ago.  The fishing was great as it was coming off, with a number of big cutthroats being caught; hopefully you got in on the action!  Since the ice has been off, the catching has slowed but has still been decent.  The Soldier Creek side has been providing the fastest action because a lot of the smaller rainbows have been staying in the shallows and have been hungry.  The cutthroats on both sides of the reservoir have moved out over deeper water for the most part, but shore anglers have still been getting some nice fish as they come into  the shallows to feed under lower light conditions.  From shore and boat, black marabou jigs have been good, as well as white tube jigs.  Fly anglers have been having success on black leeches and buggers, as well as white crystal buggers and zonkers.

Deer Creek
Deer Creek has been one of the better fishing reservoirs around recently.  Shore anglers have been picking up scrappy rainbows on PowerBait and spinners.  Boat angler's have been doing well casting jigs and spinners, or trolling Flatfish.  Fly fishers have been doing great trolling dark colored woolly buggers.  The fish seem to be concentrated 15-20 feet down, so give your jigs, bait, flies time to sink.

Memorial Day Weekend!
Our streams may be high, but there is plenty of reservoir fishing to be done.  Locally, as mentioned, Deer Creek has been great;  East Canyon is fishing well;  Pineview has been producing crappie and some bass.  Flaming Gorge would make for a great trip.  The rainbow fishing there has been very good, along with a lot of smaller lake trout being caught on jigs and trolling gear.  The ice is off of Scofield and the fishing has been fast for small rainbows.  Joe's Valley Reservoir doesn't see as much pressure and produces some nice splake.  Head further south for some great bass action at Sand Hollow or Lake Powell.  Stop by the shop or give us a call for more info on these and other locations.  Get out there and feel a tug on the end of the rod this weekend!

May 8th - 14 th

Upper Provo River
Water in the river has been coming up steadily over the last few days with the increased temps and rain. Fishing has been good with both streamers and larger brighter nymph patterns. Some very nice fish have been caught recently just above the reservoir. Runoff will probably make the river nearly unfishable very soon.

Middle Provo River
Flows have been steady at just below 600cfs for some time now. Fishing's a little tough with the flows as high as they are, but if you adjust your tactics you can do pretty well. Fishing the edges with b.w.o. nymphs has been the most productive technique. #10-14 Stonefly nymphs and San Juan have been good as attractors ahead of the b.w.o. nymphs. Weighted streamers in black and olive work very well jigged along the banks as well.

Lower Provo River
High flows are keeping the crowds down, but fishing along the softer slower shorelines is good. Patterns have primarily been baetis nymphs in #18-20 and sow bugs in #14-18. Don't ignore San Juan Worms in red and brown in the deeper runs. Good hatches of Blue Wings have still been coming off and fish have been surfacing in slower water.

Strawberry Reservoir
This is the week! Ice is just starting to come off! As of Monday evening, there is some open water in the shallows along Hwy. 40. Most of this water isn't real fishable due to its shallow depth. It should get better later in the week as some of the deeper shorelines start to open up with warmer weather. The weekend could be prime! Get ready with some white and craw colored tube jigs; Brown, Black, and Olive Leech patterns; White Crystal Buggers and Zonkers; Rainbow and Chub colored Rapalas and Jerk Baits. Please give us a call for updates on the ice conditions.

Jordanelle
Trout and a few smallmouth are being caught. Try trolling Olive Woolly Buggers, White Zonkers, Rapalas, and Needlefish. Smallmouth should be picking up as the water warms and the spawn comes on.

Scofield
The ice is almost completely off, and should be by the end of the week. Lots of smaller fish have been being caught off the shore stripping Buggers and Leeches. Also, try tubes and Jake's Spin-a-Lures. PowerBait and salmon eggs should also be very good.

April 17th - 23rd

Upper Provo River
Some rainbows are being caught above Jordanelle as they come out of the reservoir to spawn. Flows are still moderate, but levels could rise a bit with the milder weather and storms this week. Try rubber leg stone patterns in #4-8, San Juan Worms, Prince Nymphs, and egg patterns.

Middle Provo River
Flows are high at just under 600 cfs, but the river is still fishing well. Blue Winged Olive nymphs, black Zebra Midges, #10 stonefly nymphs, and worm patterns are all working subsurface. Some dry fly action can be had in slower runs and pocket water with BWO's. Get out and enjoy the river before it really blows out with runoff.

Lower Provo River
The Lower is fishing very well with BWO nymphs, black WD40's, Rainbow Warriors, and sow bugs. Rising fish can be found in slower water; try surface emergers like Sprout Baetis, Sparkle Duns, and Drymergers in #18's and 20's. Water is high making wading the river difficult. Pick a side and fish shoreline runs and back eddies.

Strawberry Reservoir
The 'Berry still has a solid layer of ice beneath surface slush. There isn't even any open water showing around the Ladders. This all means we've probably got a few more weeks before ice off.

Jordanelle
The ice just melted off the main body of the reservoir this past week. Try casting or trolling Rapalas and spoons. Jigging with olive tubes and black marabou jigs can also be effective. Shore anglers' should try PowerBait and nightcrawlers. Fly fishermen should try trolling and stripping dark colored Wooly Buggers and Zonker patterns.

Weber River
The middle section of the Weber just dropped by around 200cfs late last week. We haven't had a chance to get up and try it yet but the flow drop usually makes for good fishing. Try nymphing with #14-16 Ray Charles sow bugs, #12-16 Tungsten Surveyors, #18-22 Pearl Disco Midges, #10-12 Tungstones, and #16-18 Barr's Emergers. Flows are still over 400cfs, but this is still a very fishable level. Add some weight and move your strike indicator up a bit.

Green River
The river is fishing very well! Flows are stable at just under 3000cfs. The high, stable flows are pushing more fish along the banks and stacking them up in the back eddies. Dry fly fishing is on fire with consistent BWO and midge hatches! Fish #18-20 Comparaduns, Thorax Baetis, and Blue Ribbon Cripples for the Blue Wings. Beaded Midge Emergers, Griffith's Gnats, and Morgan's Midges are great surface midge patterns. Streamer fishing has also been good with large dark colored patterns. Spin fishermen should try unscented tube jigs in white and olive/smoke colors. Brown and Rainbow colored Rapalas also fish well.

April 3rd - 9th

Upper Provo River
River is still relatively low as the cooler temps have kept runoff from being much of a factor. A few rainbows are in up from the reservoir. Try egg patters, 20 Inchers, Rubberlegs, San Juan Worms, and Pheasant Tails for nymphs. Streamers, and Wooly Buggers in Black and Olive are working as well.

Middle Provo River
Flows are up but clear. Anticipated runoff has officials trying to make room in Jordanelle, so don't look
for flows to come down anytime soon. The fish are still there, you just need to use more weight and fish some of the slower runs and back eddies along the edges. Try some larger nymphs as attractors such as stoneflies and San Juan worms, and trail these with some smaller pheasant tails, zebra midges, Barr's emergers, and soft hackles. Black Magnum Super Buggers, olive sculpin patterns, and Foxy Clousers are good streamer patterns to try.

Lower Provo River
Flows have increased over the last week. Blue Winged Olive nymphs, midge pupa patterns, and sow bugs have been effective nymphs. Hatches of Blue Wings have been consistent and dry fly fishing has still been good in eddies and pocket water along the shorelines.

Strawberry Reservoir
Slushy conditions but still plenty of ice. Weather depending, anticipate ice-off from early to mid May.

Jordanelle
Reservoir is still iced from the Hailstone Marina and north. There is open water from the small craft launch south to the dam, and east up the river arm. Some nice browns have been caught recently on some larger Rapalas, as well as trolling dark colored Woolly Buggers and Streamers.

March 27 - April 2

Upper Provo River
Fishing has been good especially as the water warms from mid-morning into the afternoon. Some winter stones being seen. Try nymphing with #8 Pat's Rubber Legs, #16-18 Pheasant Tails, #14-16 Copper Johns, #12 Red San Juan worms.

Middle Provo River
Flows are up but fishing is good. Midges are still the most consistent action but Baetis are showing up and will only get stronger. Olive, gray, and black midge larvae and pupa are working well along with baetis nymphs. Try trailing any of those behind a larger stone nymph. Noon time has been seeing a lot of fish feeding on the surface. Nymph with #18-22 Befus Bugs, Jujubee Midges, Zebra's. #16-20 Barr's Emergers, Pheasant Tails, Juju Baetis. #8-12 Epoxy Stones, Pat's Rubber Legs, Red Fox Squirrel's. Dry's and emergers: #18-22 CDC Midges, Hi-Vis Midge Clusters, Sprout Midges, Mating Midges. Look for Blue Winged Olives in the afternoon and try Parachute Adams, Sprout Baetis, Sparkle Duns, and Parachute Blue Wings.

Lower Provo River
Baetis season is upon us! Fish are still keying on midges mid-morning to early afternoon, then switching to Baetis from mid to late afternoon. Nymphing with #16-18 Zebra Midges, #16-20 Barr's Emergers, #16-18 Psycho Mays, #14-18 Sow Bugs. Dry and emerger action good on #18 Befus Emergers, #16-20 Sprout Baetis, #16-20 Blue Winged Olive Parachutes, #18-20 Griffith's Gnat's and Mating Midges.

Strawberry Reservoir
Frozen with 20"-30" of ice covering the reservoir. Anticipate ice off near the end of April.

Jordanelle
Ice still covers the Northern portion of the reservoir as well as a portion of the Provo River arm. Boats have been able to launch at the small craft ramp. Reports of some nice browns and some rainbows being caught on Rapala's and lipless crankbaits.
