May 9, 2013 Utah Fishing Report

Strawberry Reservoir
THE ICE IS OFF!! Now is the time to go up and get some fishing in. Try thowing dark colored leeches and buggers for flies. If you want to throw gear, tie on a Lucky Craft Pointer 78 in a rainbow trout color, ghosty minnow, or shell white color. Some other things working well are powerbait, tube jigs and jakes lures.
Middle Provo
The blue winged olives are still coming off but a little bit later in the day, watch for the hatch to come off more towards the late afternoon and into the evening. Keep an eye out for the Mothers Day caddis that should be coming off now, they are currently down more towards Deer Creek but will be working their way up the river ever day.
Lower Provo
We haven't heard much from the Lower this week but the water is way up. The river is currently running around 500 cfs, be very careful wading or crossing. The fish should be pushed up around the edges in the slower currents, try streamers, caddis nymphs, scuds, and san juan worms. You probably won't see much dry fly action with water levels as high as they are.
Weber River
The Mothers Day hatch is here. Tie on a Pulsating caddis, or a Wired caddis, in olive color size 14. Also tie on a stonefly nymphm, golden stone color in a size 10 or 12. If you want to throw dries put on a tan or brown Elk Hair caddis in a size 14 or 16.
Utah Lake
The walleye spawn is coming to an end for the season but that also means that the largemouth bass spawn is getting ready to begin. Use jigs, white or chartreuse spinner baits, and especially Senko's in the green pumpkin or jb special colors.
Starvation
We are still getting good reports on the rainbow trout fishing. Powerbait has been effective in the rainbow color garlic scent or the salmon peach scent and color. If you don't want to use bait tie on a Lucky Craft lure in a Ghost Minnow color, or an olive or black tube jig. For the fly fishers tie on a dark colored leech or bugger.
We are always interested in the latest reports, if you have been out fishing recently call us up and give us the news. The number here is (801) 272-8808
